There are days when I’ve got life by the sleek, coiffed ponytail - meditating like I mean it, replying to emails with semi-coherent thoughts, parenting like Mary fucking Poppins. And then there are days I eat an entire packet of Tunnock’s Teacakes and scream into the dishwasher.
That’s what Get A Grip is for.
I’ve teamed up with my gobby, glorious mate Vicky Pattison - a woman who is part confessional priest, part chaos goblin, part pint-sized powerhouse - to launch a brand-new podcast. It’s the place where we say all the quiet parts out loud, and probably a few things we’ll regret too. Think of your group chat, but live and in your ears.
Two gobs, one mic, zero filters.
I’ve obviously been teasing this for a bit but it’s finally happening!
We’ll be tackling the glorious, gritty bits of womanhood that don’t make it into the Pinterest quotes. PMDD. Mum guilt. Horrendous hormones. Met Gala gaffs. The shame of ambition. The gaslighting mother-in-law (not mine… obviously…x).
It’s belly laughs, brutal truths, and the kind of honesty that usually happens at 2am when the wine’s gone warm and the Spanx are off.
We’ve both had our share of being told to calm down, pipe down, or and this is the kicker ‘get a grip’. But we’ve had enough. And we’re not letting go. Nothing’s off the table. Except maybe dignity. But sure, that went out the window when I danced the cha-cha in a glittery thong on live TV.
Seriously though, sometimes the only thing standing between you and a total breakdown is a mate who gets it. And sometimes that mate is Vicky Pattison screaming “Babe. Same.”
We’re both bloody tired. Tired of the pressure to curate our pain into a carousel post. And mostly, tired of pretending we’re fine when we’re absolutely, fucking not.
It’s funny. Inappropriately funny. Even when we’re unpicking painful stuff - shame, grief, heartbreak - we always end up wheezing. Because if we don’t laugh, we’ll cry. And to be totally honest we usually do both.
We’re not going to fix your life - Christ, we can’t even sort our own shit out - but we’ll sit in the muck with you and make it feel a little less heavy.
It’s full-fat, grown-ass-woman joy. With a side of chaos. And a decent dollop of what-the-actual-fuck.
